DRIVING DIRECTIONS: from the village of St. Peter's, follow HWY 4E (towards Sydney) 4.7km, and turn right onto Lynchs River Rd (the second entrance to this road). Follow this short connector 200m and turn left to stay on the road and continue approximately 200m further, parking off to the side of the road.
TRAIL DESCRIPTION: an easy and level old roadbed down the hill and around makes this hike seem shorter than it really is. At the base of the hill, the road turns to the right, following a gradual uphill climb alongside the south branch of McKinnons Brook. When the road makes a sharp left hand turn, away from the brook, continue alongside the brook another 100m to these small but charming falls.
Named for the grantee of this land, Captain Alexander MacDonald, one of the Loyalist Planters following the American Revolution, Capt. MacDonald was in charge of the 2nd Battalion of the 84th Regiment, the Royal Highlander Emigrants Brigade. He spent much of the Revolutionary War stationed in Halifax and Windsor, overseeing the defenses of Atlantic Canada.
